The 2020 Toyota Highlander
November 26 2019, Toyota Mont-Laurier
From the Corolla to Prius, Toyota has a number of products it does very well, and the Highlander is one of those products. Nearly 20 years into the Highlander product life, the SUV is still going strong. As the years have progressed and the generations have evolved, Toyota has continued to improve on a good thing.
An Updated Design for the 2020 Toyota Highlander
For starters, the exterior design of the latest fourth generation 2020 Toyota Highlander has grown up quite a bit. The front features an updated front grille that’s equal parts commanding and classic, without being over-the-top edge-y. There’s no denying the Toyota family resemblance, and the 2020 Toyota Highlander wears the look well. Add in aggressively styled rear wheel arches that drag down below the passenger door, and the 2020 Highlander has a decidedly muscular and slightly sporty stance.
Inside the 2020 Highlander : Advanced Connection Technologies
Step inside the 2020 Toyota Highlander and you’ll discover a host of technological upgrades including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and even Amazon Alexa integration and Waze app control. Standard on all models is an 8” touchscreen. However, the Platinum comes with a 12.3” screen for navigation and multimedia.
For 2020, Toyota kept the mid-dash shelf that was so popular in the previous generation, but this time, it’s split into two sections. Fear not though, even the largest smartphones on the market today will fit. You’ll also discover the three front USB ports hidden in those storage compartments.
Two Available Powertrains for the Toyota Highlander
There are two available powertrains for the 2020 Toyota Highlander: the first is the standard 3.5L V6 that produces 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque and is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. As it stands right now, this is the most powerful standard output from an engine in the Highlander’s segment.
The 2020 Toyota Highlander also offers two available AWD systems. One favours the front wheels until slippage is detected. It will then send power to the rear. On the higher trim levels of the 2020 Highlander lineup, something called Dynamic Torque Vectoring works as a FWD platform until it detects wheel slippage. It then sends power to each rear wheel individually for ultimate grip.
The second available powertrain is a hybrid version that features a 2.5L 4-cylinder paired with a team of electric motors that power the front wheels. You can opt for an AWD Hybrid, which means you then get a third electric motor to help power all four wheels. Total power output on the 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is 240 ponies.
